Using the Eee PC 701

I’ve had the Eee PC 701 for about a week or so now and it has had a bit of use. Though AbiWord does have a bit of a problem when you switch to the equivalent of ‘track changes’ mode as it leaves trails all over the screen and the formatting goes somewhat awry.

The most disappointing aspect of it is the battery life which isn’t really all that – especially when wireless networking is enabled. In fact, my iPhone 3G battery lasts longer. The other complete pain in the arse is that Windows Update refuses to accept the XP Professional operating system on here as valid, even though the docs, box and extended warranty confirm that this is a legitimate installation of Windows XP. I shall be calling Harvey Norman tomorrow to see where we can get to with that.

I still have my eye on a new MacBook once Apple release their new holiday season line-up, possible with the new Snow Leopard operating system. That might be around the end of October. Possibly combined with an overseas trip, depending upon my finances.
