Power down

It is a sanguine reminder of how connected we are, reliant upon institutions and each other. I posted earlier about the Lehman Brothers phenomenon and how this and related events are likely to dump upon us all from a great height. We can’t escape this connectedness.

This afternoon, the power went down at work. Not everything, but importantly, the network where all the data I’d stored is inaccessible. It has pretty much paralysed all activity here.

Networks: local, global, economic, data. Crucially important to us, and both fragile and completely overwhelming and out of our control at the same time.

Most people here right now are strengthening theirs. Social networks, that is.
