Last year, my colleagues at the National Institute of Mental Health in Tokyo invited me to apply for a fellowship with the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) through the Health Research Council (HRC) here in New Zealand. Long story short, this was approved by the JSPS – the main science research funding body in Japan – yesterday. So, I’ll be working in Japan in April.

I’ve already been lined up as a co-presented at a Japanese Suicide Prevention Conference in Osaka in mid-April (my first publication in Japanese, heh), and I will be working on the rest of my itinerary for the rest of the time I will be in Japan very soon. I’m very, VERY excited to be an Invited Fellow on this year’s programme. It’s such a great opportunity, and I’m keen to exchange ideas on how Japan and New Zealand prepare, respond and recover from emergency events from a psychosocial point of view.
